Overseen by the Worlds Leading Chaplin Expert
This print is made particularly special by the fact that its production has been overseen by the BFI's "guiding light" on all Chaplin projects, David Robinson. David is a film critic, historian and lifelong Chaplin researcher who authored the definitive Chaplin biography, Chaplin: His Life and Art. He also worked as the historical consultant on Lord Attenborough's BAFTA-winning film about the actor's life.
We are thrilled to have worked alongside the worlds leading Chaplin expert on this unique and discerning print for fans of Charlie Chaplin everywhere. We are also pleased to confirm that the first 100 prints will be accompanied by a hand-signed letter from David.
A Brief History of this Remarkable Image
Taken from an original photograph by Chaplin's film cameraman, Jack Wilson, this image is of Charlie in a classic 'Little Tramp' pose that is thought to have been made around the time of The Kid (1921). It is clear that Chaplin formally posed for Wilson, and Wilson was proud enough to inscribe his signature in the negative.
The image was never added to the official studio stills stock and there is no trace of a surviving negative. We are therefore extremely lucky to have been able to reproduce this print from the best surviving version of this image anywhere in the world.
Created using the Finest Possible Reproduction Technique
Unlike the many Charlie Chaplin posters that are sold each year, this print has been produced using the very finest Giclée printing process to ensure the highest possible reproduction quality and longevity.
Our Chaplin Print in the Café of Bristol's Watershed
To compliment the Chaplin celebrations that took place at the Slapstick Silent Comedy Festival, our print is currently displayed in the café-bar of Watershed, Bristol.
