Chaplin's Silent Masterpieces - City Lights (1931)
City Lights has received tremendous praise from numerous film directors - perhaps most notably: Stanley Kubrick, Woody Allen and Federico Fellini.
Chaplin himself was incrediably proud of the film, particularly the poignant ending which he described as being "a beautiful scene, beautiful, and because it isn’t over-acted."
Charlie Chaplin in City Lights

This brooding and lonely image is the simplest in our Silent Masterpieces Collection, but no less powerful thanks to it's stunning composition and clever use of props.
The image shows Chaplin sitting by himself, dreaming of the blind flower seller that he has fallen in love with.
The clarity of the image is particularly impressive; a result of being able to reproduce this photograph from terrific-quality source material that has survived remarkably well in the Chaplin Estate's Paris achives.
